The Guy's Weekend Minimize

A quick math quiz: What do the following add up to:
·        Hard work side-by-side building shelters, painting rooms & insulating a cabin
·        Lots of laughter over the antics of Hans & Franz as they give “Puny Little Stevie” a crash-course in “pumpification”
·        Deep consideration of all the strengths God has given – and how that strength is used for Him
·        Bellies filled with lots of good food (i.e. lots of meat!)
·        A quiet Sunday morning canoeing in the midst of the beauty of Bluestone Lake?
Sounds like a weekend tailor-made for guys. And it was – that was just a sampling of what took place at last year’s Guys’ Weekend. 30-plus men gathered to do all that and much more. By the end of the weekend, four new shelters stood at each of the Hogan sites to provide a dry spot for summer campers to prepare meals. Several rooms in the basement of the chapel were given a much-needed coat of fresh paint. Cabin 15 was the first of several cabins that are being a given an upgrade, an insulated ceiling. As one participant put it, “We were there to work together…and to watch the magic of God's grace at work.
But, it wasn’t all work – there proved to be plenty of time to rest & relax. Sunday morning was a favorite time for many. A few slept in, others grabbed a paddle & canoe and cruised the lake. Still others went hiking, experiencing the wonders of our Lord: “It was a beautiful dawn and as I was adjacent to the pool area there were turkeys gobbling in the woods to the left, behind, and to the right of the Bluestone Campus. Just then a few geese were honking overhead and of course multiple song birds were at full strength! I thought to myself that this was God's Choir I was able to listen to, what a blessing!”
As the weekend drew to an end, the question arose, “Are you doing this again next year?” The correct answer, of course, is “Yes!” The Guys’ Weekend 2010 is set for April 23-25. The theme will be “True.” Our keynote speaker, Bob Sylvester, a former FBI agent, has a great heart and lots of experience in helping men grow spiritually. The planned work projects will be an great addition to Bluestone Camp: low ropes course elements. Rumor has it that a few special guests, “Burl & Earl” will be showing up. Get the guys from your church together and join us – a registration brochure can be found at http://bluestonecamp.com/TheGuysWeekend.htm. For more information, contact Rob Laukoter at 304-610-3054 or covenantchurch@yahoo.com.
