Attached you will find information on the Presbytery of WV’s trip to the Presbyterian Offices at the United Nations in New York City. I hope you will share this information with those in your congregation who might be interested in attending.
The Presbyterian U.N. Office represents the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) at the United Nations. Staff members help to equip Presbyterians for discipleship by training them to put their faith into action in the global arena. The Presbyterian U.N. Office also bears witness to Jesus Christ by advocating the concerns of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) General Assemblies to the United Nations. The Presbyterian U.N. Office is one way in which the church responds to Christ’s call to bring good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives and to let the oppressed go free.
Trip participants will have an opportunity to tour the Presbyterian Offices at the U.N., meet with its staff as well as have an opportunity to take a guided tour of the United Nations. The focus of the theme for the trip will be the Presbyterian Church’s response to the growing issue of Human Trafficking around the world and how is the Presbyterian Church responding to this issue. The Presbyterian UN Office staff as well as several guest speakers will share their information and knowledge with us concerning this issue. There will also be the opportunity for some sighting while we are in the city! The dates for this year’s trip are: August 29th-September 1st.
We have 35 spaces reserved but can accommodate up to 40 participants. The cost per person for this four day trip is $400. Of this a non-refundable $200 payment, is due for each participant no later than Monday, June 27, 2011, with the remainder due no later than August 1, 2011. Please send your payment with your registration form.
Registration will be on a first come, first registered basis. The final registration deadline is Monday, June 27, but I would encourage you to have your congregation member’s registration forms in as early as possible to ensure participation.
