The PC(USA) Office of the General Assembly is now receiving overtures to the 224th General Assembly, June 20-27, 2020. The Presbytery’s policy on overtures defines an overture as “an item of business that has been approved by a presbytery or synod that requests the General Assembly to take a particular action or approve or endorse a particular statement or resolution.”

Overtures from presbyteries require at least one concurrence for the business to be considered by the General Assembly. The Moderator Elect may initiate consideration of concurrence to an overture from another presbytery; the session of a church or a standing committee may also initiate consideration of a concurrence. Any request to consider a concurrence is made to the Stated Clerk, who notifies the Moderator Elect to call together an Ad Hoc committee to evaluate the overture.

The full policy can be viewed here. The policy states that “the Stated Clerk shall provide a link on the Presbytery of West Virginia website to the overtures filed with the General Assembly.” The link is now available on our home page or click here to access it directly. Interested persons or entities may contact the Stated Clerk for further details.
