There are three different kinds of grants that are accessed through the work of the Mission Committee.

Mission Grants: Funds that are budgeted each year to support Mission activity in the Presbytery of WV.  There are three categories of funding:  Institutional Partnerships, Mission Partnerships, Mission Startups.

Brick and Mortar Grants: Funds from the Presbytery Budget for Building needs, primarily emergency needs.

Hunger Action Grants: Funding available through the generosity of our congregations giving to through the Cents-Ability Offering.

 

Mission Grants

Apply for a Mission Grant!

The deadline for all categories is early fall. Grant applications will always be due on the first Tuesday following Columbus Day to receive funding for following calendar year. Annual reports are due by September 1 each year. Grants are ordinarily paid in four quarterly installments. Grants are divided into three categories:

  1. Mission Start-up Grants: Apply every year, limited to 3 consecutive years. If an organization has been funded 3 consecutive years that organization will need to wait for at least one calendar year before reapplying.
  2. Institutional Partnerships: Report back yearly, but do not have to apply every year.
    1. An annual report is required each year. The Report should include:
      • A basic mission statement from organization,
      • A statement of what were funds were used for
      • How the organization communicated within the presbytery at large about their ministry
      • A plan for the following year
    2. A reminder will be sent in early June from the presbytery office. Reports are due no later than September 1 and will be read at the September meeting of Mission Committee.
  1. Mission Partnerships: Report back yearly, but do not have to apply every year.

Grant Application basics:

Cover sheet:

  1. Name of program
  2. Type of need addressed
  3. Amount requested
  4. Church/Denomination affiliation
  5. List any prior years when grants were received.

Application:

  1. Program or project description
    1. What caused you to choose this program/project?
    2. How will it affect your community?
  2. What will the funds be used for?
    1. What is your program budget
    2. What portion you are seeking support for?
    3. Where are you getting your other support? What are your other sources of funding?
    4. Total amount of request.
    5. What is your plan for becoming self-sustaining?
  3. What is your plan for next year?

End of year report:

At the conclusion of the year, please submit the following as a report.  If this is not your first year applying for the grant, please attach your report from last year.

  1. What have you accomplished in the past year?
  2. How many units of service were provided?
  3. Number of people benefited.
  4. Projected benefit of the program of the year ahead.

When a grant from any category is approved:

The Mission Committee will send letter announcing the funding of the request, the amount and a request to the organization to report to Presbytery in one of the following ways:

  1. A newsletter article
  2. A video or link for our website
  3. Photos
  4. A display at a Presbytery Meeting
  5. An oral report at a Presbytery Meeting

 

Brick and Mortar Grants  

  1. In general, related to program or building needs.
  2. Usually takes a minimum of three months to process.
  3. Mission Committee approves the concept.
  4. Mission Committee then passes it on to Stewardship and Trustees, who approve based on fund availability.
  5. There is a rolling deadline.
  6. Funding renews at the beginning of the year. $15,000 per calendar year for all projects funded through this grant.
  7. Remember: Receiving a grant can help you as you seek to find other grant possibilities.
