Bridgeport Presbyterian Church

Sunday, September 29, 2019

2:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Why: One of the responsibilities of all councils of the church – session, presbytery, synod and General Assembly – is to “provide that the Sacraments may be rightly administered and received.” (G 3-3.0101) The presbytery has a responsibility for “authorizing and training specific ruling elders to administer or preside at the Lord’s Supper when it deems it necessary to meet the needs for the administration of the Sacrament.” (G-3.0301b) One way the presbytery seeks to fulfill this responsibility is with training events. Last fall, there were a number of such events across the presbytery. Moving forward, the intent is to provide one training event per year as there is need.

Who: All sessions, particularly those whose churches do not have pastoral leadership, are invited to recommend and send 2-3 ruling elders in good standing (they do not have to be on the session currently) to this event, noting that in order to be authorized to preside at communion, participants must attend the entire event from beginning to end.

Names of ruling elders must be submitted to the Stated Clerk of the presbytery in advance of the training.

Robin Ray, Pastor of Bridgeport Presbyterian Church, will be leading this event.

The registration deadline for this event is Thursday, September 19. Click below to register.
