April 6 at First Presbyterian Church, Charleston

“Being Church Today” is the theme of this year’s Festival of Faith, to be held Saturday, April 6, at First Presbyterian Church of Charleston from 9 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m.

Brian McLaren – author, speaker, activist, public theologian, and leading figure in the emergent church movement – will be the keynote presenter on the theme Being Church in a Time of Division. The early church began in a time of tension and arguments: Do we pay taxes to Caesar? Do we observe Kosher laws? Do we forgive those who deny Christ when threatened with martyrdom? The church in America has had to function in similarly fractious times and issues – regarding slavery, segregation, equality for women, and more. What are our options for handling divisive situations? How can we wisely and safely pilot our churches through turbulent times?

In addition to the opportunity to hear Brian speak, participants will be able to go to 2 or 3 workshops, engage in times of worship and fellowship, visit a Presbyterian Publishing Corporation Bookstore, and attend a book signing by Brian.
