Some congregation may have held their elections of ruling elders and deacons too late to participate in Zoom Officer Training in November, so here is another chance!
The Book of Order states that “When persons have been elected to the ordered ministry of ruling elder or deacon, the session shall provide a period of study and preparation, after which the session shall examine them as to their personal faith; knowledge of the doctrine, government, and discipline contained in the Constitution of the church; and the duties of the ministry.” (G-2.0402)
To assist Pastors and Session Moderators with this period of study and preparation, Susan Sharp Campbell, Associate for Educational Ministry, will be offering a two-part Officer Training, 2-5 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 20 & 27 on Zoom. These sessions will build on and connect with each other, so participants are expected to join in both sessions. Newly elected elders and deacons, as well as their moderators and those who are currently on sessions, are welcome to participate; please note, however, for non-newly elected officers, this will be a repeat of what was offered in November 2020, January 2020, and November 2021.
Each participant will need a current copy of the PCUSA Book of Order that they can use during the training sessions. Order copies here, or use this free download.
The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 4. People may register as individuals or register a whole group. To register, send an email with your name, church, email address, and phone number to susan_sharp_campbell@hotmail.com. If registering more than one person, please include email addresses for everyone.
