Did you know that the PCUSA publishes a monthly resource focused on helping ruling elders serve their congregations faithfully? re:RE Regarding Ruling Elders: A Monthly Resource for Serving Faithfully focuses on the call to ministry by ruling elders and the ministry partnership between ruling elders and ministers of the Word & Sacrament.

Ruling elders have responsibilities in the life of the church, especially in the areas of leadership, governance, spiritual discernment, and discipline. This resource offers a deeper understanding of these responsibilities and helps deepen skills to be a better ruling elder.

The monthly articles can be used individually or can be gathered around a particular topic. Regarding Ruling Elders is a great way for sessions to deepen their understanding of the work of ruling elders and other congregational leaders. It is also suited for use as a part of officer training. Ruling elders can even sign up to receive a monthly email with the latest Regarding Ruling Elders.

This year’s resources are part of the PCUSA’s Year of Leader Formation: Investing in Elders and Deacons and are written by the Rev. Dr. Rodger Nishioka, who serves as the senior associate pastor and director of adult faith formation at Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. Prior to joining the staff at Village, Dr. Nishioka served as a professor of Christian Education at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA.
