10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Coonskin Park in Charleston

This year, the Presbytery of West Virginia’s Younger Youth Retreat for those in grades 6-8 and their adult advisors will be a one-day event at Coonskin Park Picnic Shelters 19 and 20. While we will be outside, it is expected that participants will wear masks throughout the day, though this was not mentioned in registration/promotional materials.

The focus of the event, led by the Presbytery’s Youth Council, is Trolls in Our Midst. Trolls are often signs that nothing good is about to come. Trolls may remind us of small, colorful creatures. These days, trolls are also those who seem to hate just to hate, posting negative and hurtful comments on others’ social media posts. Looking at biblical characters who might have been “trolled” by the crowds around them, this retreat will explore where we encounter trolls like those on social media, when we are trolls, and how Jesus calls us, walks with us, and transforms us away from being trolls.

Below, you will find registration information, which has also been emailed to pastors, clerks of session, Christian educators, and youth ministry contacts to share with their youth, parents, and adult advisors. Box lunches will be provided, and lunch orders should be turned in with registration. The cost per person, for both youth and adults, is $10. The registration deadline is Thursday, April 29. Registration can be done online with a credit card or by snail mailing the registration form, lunch order form, and payment to the presbytery office.

It is hoped that the weather on this date will be nice enough to be outdoors; however, we will be watching the forecast and may find we have to cancel. If that is the case, registrants will be notified in advance.
